A group dedicated to Ocean and Surf Ski Paddling around South Australia. This group takes part in SLSA spec surf ski competitions and ocean ski downwind paddling training sessions and special events within South Australia and Australia. The group is supported by Natural Gas - South Australia and is affiliated with Canoe SA, Australian Canoeing and works closely with Surf Life Saving South Australia.
Members are from South Australian Surf Life Saving Clubs, Canoeing Clubs, Outriggers and Stand Up Paddlers plus recreation paddlers.
Our aim is to deliver training and development sessions that improve paddling and take part in events involving downwind racing whilst providing an organisation for all to be part of.
We use ocean skis (familiar brands like Epic and Fenn, Think, Vajda and Stellar), outriggers, racing kayaks and SLSA spec racing skis.
Our aim is to participate in high level ocean paddling events, such as the Australian Ocean Series, Perth World Cup, 20 Beaches and other events in Australia like the Anaconda and the Molokai World Cup event in Hawaii.
All training and special event updates and entries are included on the groups Facebook page, all paddlers are welcome to post, events, training sessions and in particular group meet ups for downwind training.
Presentation Event SAVE THE DATE The 2020 Series is done and dusted with some great racing and conditions that provided paddlers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to race each other.
The presentation event is to acknowledge the best performers across all ages and genders as well as to congratulate all of our partners, Shaw and Partners, Fenn, Wayne Jones Celebration Funerals, RJE Global, World Paddle and Beavis Plumbing, as well as our supporters. Please join us on Sunday the 8th of November from 4pm at the Holdfast Hotel. Bring along your partner if you like and enjoy a couple of drinks and some food while sharing a few stories about this years races. The cost is only $10 which includes your first two drinks as well as some nibbles!
On 24 January 2010 the SA Ocean Paddlers, back then it was Steve Dalton on his own, in conjunction with Encounter Canoeing held the Spirit Four Island Classic. The race was from the Bluff around Wright Island, Granite Island and into Horseshoe Bay.
Some paddlers who featured were – Steve Perry who came in 1st overall, brother Greg and Barney Juniper also were there. Nat Gohl looking very cool when he came in and Dave Myatt, a few of the boys from South Port on the double – Simon Linden and Ian Price.
Steve Dalton with that familiar running style after sitting on a ski for an hour plus Andrew Remfrey. I’m sure you’ll recognise a few more in the race like Lee Westwood.
This Sunday’s race, the final in the series, is looking great and the confirmation of starting time and exact start area will be advised later in the week once weather conditions are as accurate as can be.
Special thanks must go to Matt Burrage who has coordinated the water cover with his Club Goolwa as well as Port Elliott and Chiton Rocks. Also to Sonya Williamson and Dan Willets from SLSSA who has provided guidance and support throughout the series to our water safety clubs.
Looking forward to seeing a great turn out on Sunday in a spectacular part of the coast.
